THE FIX RADIO BALD BUILDERS BREAKFAST SHOW WINS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD
On Thursday 12th January Brad, Sam,Jack and John from Fix Radio's The Bald Builders Breakfast Show travelled to Birmingham, to attend an award ceremony. The boys were not going just to be part of an audience, they were nominees of the UK’s prestigious Loo Of The Year Awards.
These awards are taken seriously, and this was an event with 15 categories. Huge household know brands/organisations have been crowned winners, since the competition was formed 35 years ago in 1987.
A Competition based around toilets is not something you'd have associated with Brad & Sam normally, so how did the entry come about?
Well in May 2022 Jack Edwards their radio producer at Fix Radio entered them into the competition. When he called a meeting with Brad & Sam he advised that he wanted to participate as a team, to look to win an award.
Obviously the boys were game, and couldn’t wait to tap into their creative juices. They devised a plan to turn a plain boring looking portaloo, into the best mobile toilet you had ever seen.
The following day and a solid 9 hours later the portaloo was complete. It was one they believed could challenge for the title. If you thought its outside brick effect was smart, once you opened the door you were sure to be amazed.
Inside artificial grass was laid on the floors, a TV was also installed above the toilet. Numerous snacks were displayed on the back of the door, enabling you to help yourself while having a number two. A flashing mirror was also installed along with so many other modifications. The end result was of a toilet to the highest standard, one you could spend hours and hours in.
Once happy with the finished product the judges paid a visit to Char’s Cafe to run over their criteria checklist extensively.They would score the toilet based on many different must haves.
The judges Charles & Becky were surprised with what they seen, advising that the toilet ticked many boxes. They had a coffee and a bite to eat and advised they would be in touch. A few nervous months followed before the contact came from the judges.But it was well worth the wait,as The Fix Radio Bald Builders Breakfast Show had been included in the list of nominees for Mobile Loo Of The Year 2022.
Fast forward to January 12th 2023 and The Fix Radio Bald Builders Breakfast Show team were on the road, for a three hour jaunt to Birmingham.
Could Fix Radio’s Brad and Sam actually take home first prize, making them award winning National Radio Presenters?
After waiting patiently for other awards to be given out, it was time…
THE RESULTS WERE IN AND THE BOYS HAD WON
The Fix Radio Bald Builders Breakfast Show team were called up on stage, were they proudly received their winners trophy. Their first award as National Radio Presenters.
The panel of judges were so impressed with the toilet,that they are adding a new category for the building and construction industry in 2023. The Building and Construction site toilet category, which they hope will improve standards on building and roadside construction sites.
